Top 10 Safety Tips for Contact Lens Wearers
- Always remove your contact lenses before a night’s sleep. Leaving the lenses in your eyes overnight deprives your eyes of needed oxygen and heightens the risk of corneal ulcer, an open sore on the colored part of your eye.
- Check your lenses for damage before and after you clean them.
- Insert lenses BEFORE applying cosmetics like mascara and eyeliner, and remove the lenses BEFORE cleaning off the makeup.
- Be sure to visit an eye-care professional for a complete exam at least once a year. Some patients may require more frequent visits.
- Use only contact lenses that have been prescribed to you. To keep your eyes healthy, don’t lend your lenses to anyone else, and don’t wear anyone else’s lenses.
- Remove lenses if your eyes become red or irritated and visit an eye doctor.
- Throw away disposable lenses as directed by their manufacturer. Even non-disposable lenses wear out over time, so be sure to replace contacts as necessary.
- Wash your hands before inserting or removing contact lenses; use antibacterial soap.
- Thoroughly clean your long-term contacts as directed.Use good hygiene.
- Don’t moisten contacts with saliva and don’t put contacts in or near your mouth
